Experienced Traffic Ticket Defense Attorney |
Wheaton, Geneva, and Sycamore, Illinois
If you live in Illinois, then you know that our traffic laws are tough. Traffic tickets carry potentially high negative consequences for your driver's privileges, your insurance costs and your pocketbook. Fight your ticket rather than pay the significant long-term cost of losing your license.
I learned the hard way: my freshman year in college, I owned a motorcycle that did not have a speedometer and I quickly racked up 11 speeding tickets that year alone. I had two driver's licenses and as soon as I would get one back from the court, I would have to post it as bond on another speeding ticket. Oh brother, what a mess.
What made the difference was that I never gave up and I fought every ticket in every way I could. As a result, I never lost my driving privileges although I did have to pay an occasional fine. The lessons I learned then I still employ today. Don't just throw up your hands and give up. What you may think is an impossible case may be an easy winner to an experienced traffic lawyer like myself.
Many people do not realize that it is possible to go back into court years, sometimes decades, after a ticket goes on your record and get it removed or vacated. Sometimes it seems like an attorney "fixes" the tickets by some shady under-the-counter deal, but that simply does not happen anymore: what appears like a miracle is merely good work by a knowledgeable and experienced attorney.

Many moving violations dramatically increase insurance rates regardless of your age. They may even disqualify you from obtaining insurance at any price. With the help of our law firm, you may be able to keep a violation off your driving record even if you have already had Court Supervision for a previous speeding ticket.
In many cases, we are able to go back into court on tickets that already appear on your record and get them removed in order to avoid or terminate a suspension. For example, if you get three speeding convictions on your record in one year, the Secretary of State will notify you that your license will be suspended beginning 30 to 45 days after the date of the notice. In many cases, we are able to go back and get one of those convictions vacated or removed from your record thus ending the suspension before it even begins.
Violations such as passing a school bus while loading or improper passing of an emergency vehicle (Scott's Law) are considered so serious that your driving privileges are at risk. In the case of passing a school bus while loading or unloading, court supervision is not a sentencing option. Your driving privileges will be suspended if you plead guilty or are found guilty of that charge. Therefore, you must get the state or local prosecutor to dismiss or amend the charge to something else. Similarly, if you are found guilty of violating "Scott's Law," improperly passing an emergency vehicle without changing lanes or slowing down, your driving privileges will also be suspended. Therefore, the charge must be amended to some other offense if you hope to keep your driving privileges.
A single drag racing conviction results in a driver's license revocation, not merely a suspension. In such cases, you absolutely need an attorney to act as an advocate for you to get the charges reduced or dismissed.
Speeding 20 miles per hour over the speed limit is a serious offense, particularly if you are under 21 years old. Speeding more than 40 miles per hour over the speed limit is a Class A misdemeanor. If you are convicted of a misdemeanor, you will be required to disclose that conviction on future job applications. In today's tough job market, what chance do you have of getting that job if you have to disclose the fact that you have a "criminal" conviction on your record?
